Woman, 21, collapses and dies three days after being told she had a chest infection

An ambitious young woman "excited to be an aunt" died three days after being told she had a chest infection.

Molly Ross, 21, had been in hospital with pneumonia when she died suddenly after collapsing on her way to the toilet in the middle of the night, her family said.

It's understood the telemarketing executive from Sheffield had developed sepsis, with her unexpected death leaving her loved ones in a state of absolute shock.

Molly had been feeling unwell for days when she was admitted to Sheffield's Northern General Hospital on Sunday, April 23.

But her family and partner Nathan were given the devastating news on the Wednesday that Molly had gotten out of her bed in the small hours when she suddenly collapsed, and died shortly later.

Molly's aunt, Kelly Hussey, said she had been suffering from a chest infection when she was admitted.

'Living nightmare'

Molly had just recently moved in with her boyfriend and was doing really well at work.

Her family say the death still doesn't make sense to them.

"We're still in absolute shock - it's been like a living nightmare and still doesn't make sense to us," Kelly told The Mirror.

Molly, who would have been turning 22 later this month, was "excited" about becoming an aunt, said Kelly, with her brother Jake, 19, about to become a dad.

"She was in a great place in life," Kelly added. "She was making her way up at the company she was working for and had just moved in with her boyfriend, Nathan.

"Molly was about to become an auntie and was really excited, buying clothes for the new baby.

"She was just a funny, happy and determined young lady who was always a shoulder to cry on. She was especially close with my daughter - her cousin - Grace."

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Kelly to help Molly's mum, Ruth McDonald, her partner Iain and dad Ian Ross arrange the funeral and grow a memorial tree at a nearby beauty spot at Saddleworth Moor, on the edge of Manchester.

Molly had lived with Type 1 diabetes since being diagnosed at the age of three, although it's understood her condition was unrelated to her illness.

"She has been in and out of hospital before for her diabetes. We have been used to her bouncing back - it's just so cruel and unfair," Kelly added.

Medical investigators are looking into a few possible causes for Molly's death, Kelly added, with an inquest to take place to determine exactly how she died.
