Student, 19, found murdered at university halls accommodation with streets cordoned off

A student has been found murdered at university halls accommodation.

The 19-year-old was found at private student property earlier this morning.

Police and ambulance services received reports of the woman suffering serious injuries at an address in Islington, north London

They arrived at the address at 5.10am and found the young woman, but were unable to save her.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended but despite emergency workers' efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police investigations are ongoing with multiple streets surrounding the address being cordoned off and a murder enquiry has been launched.

It is believed the victim was a first year student at City, University of London. It has also been reported that the victim was an international student in her first year of studying psychology.

The location where she was found, Arbour House, is believed to be private accommodation and houses students from all universities across the capital.

Students at the halls described their panic as police banged on their doors, My London reports.

A 19-year-old woman was murdered within their residential building and one tenant said: "You don't think it would happen so close".

Another student , Anna, 20, from Romania, said: "I feel really uncomfortable. She was quite close to my age. Police were on my floor banging on doors. It was scary."

Students have been leaving the accommodation while the crime scene remains in place.

Residents from the Unite Student-owned property have been packing their bags up and leaving.

One woman said: "Because of the scene a lot of us are leaving."

The owners of the accommodation later released a statement.

A Unite Students spokesman said: “As this remains an on-going police incident, we are unable to comment on their investigation.

“Our priority at this time is the safety and wellbeing of students at Arbour House. We are working closely with the police and City, University of London.”

Travel has been restricted in some streets surrounding the scene.
