Wolves manager blow was welcome boost for Leeds United loanee

Queens Park Rangers boss Michael Beale's decision to turn down Wolverhampton Wanderers will have been a welcome boost for Leeds United loanee Tyler Roberts.

The rookie manager has propelled QPR to the summit of the Championship, with Roberts playing a crucial role in their remarkable rise.

Beale's exceptional start at Loftus Road, after previous spells as assistant at Sao Paulo, Rangers and Aston Villa, has not gone unnoticed. But the 42-year-old showed an incredible level of loyalty to his current employers by rejecting the managerial vacancy at Wolves last week,

Wolves have instead stuck with interim boss Steve Davis, who will manage the club until at least 2023.

Roberts has played 11 times for Rangers in the Championship this term, although he has missed the last two games due to a calf injury.

Beale has revealed that Roberts was close to a return for their 2-1 victory over Wigan on Saturday, but wasn't willing to risk him with a hectic fixture schedule ahead in the build-up to the World Cup.

"Tyler Roberts tried to train yesterday to be available and still just felt something in his calf, so I didn't want to take the risk," Beale told the media via West London Sport

The 23-year-old has grown into a key player for The Hoops, and scored what proved to be the winning goal against Bristol City earlier this month to open his goal scoring account for the club.

QPR have collected an incredible five victories from their last six league games and lead Blackburn Rovers at the top on goal difference. The Championship has been extraordinarily tight this season, with only six points separating QPR and ninth-place Swansea City.
