Wolves 0-1 Man United: ‘Disciplined’ Marcus Rashford comes off the bench to score vital winner

Marcus Rashford came off the bench to score the winner for Manchester United at Wolves after being dropped for a disciplinary issue.

Rashford was a surprise name on the bench at Molineux, having enjoyed a fine World Cup with England and scoring upon his return to United in a comfortable win over Nottingham Forest.

But ahead of the game manager Erik ten Hag soon explained why, with the striker being disciplined for reasons which the manager would not expand upon, adding only on BT Sport that it was "our rules". Rashford later confirmed he “overslept” and missed a team meeting, hence why he was not in the starting lineup.

And Rashford produced the perfect response after being called upon at half-time, by holding off two Wolves defenders to fire low past Jose Sa to send United into the top four.

It was an entertaining game at Molineux, in which Wolves were a match for United but struggled to find the required cutting edge in the final third.

Alejandro Garnacho, Rashford's replacement in the starting lineup, should have scored in the first half when intercepting Nelson Semedo's short back pass, only to be denied by Sa.

Rashford's introduction added a much-needed spark to United's attack, with Anthony Martial particularly struggling, and proved the difference in an end-to-end game.
