The Gunners were knocked out of the Women’s Champions League on Thursday after a 2-0 defeat in their second leg with Wolfsburg.
A late Lotte Wubben-Moy goal secured a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the last-eight tie, after Tabea Wassmuth had seemingly set Wolfsburg up for a vital victory in north London.
The pedigree of hosts was undoubted with their record boasting two Champions League titles and three further trips to the final in the last six seasons. They will now face Barcelona in the semi-finals.
Wolfsburg took an early lead through ex-Gunners star Jill Roord, after the visitors failed to clear a corner.
Despite an improved display in the second-half, Arsenal were hit by a suckerpunch that killed the tie as Leah Williamson put into her own net. The 3-1 aggregate defeat meant the capital club’s nine-year wait for a Champions League semi-final berth goes on.
