Fans of the Boston Celtics got word of some bad news, though there remains a chance it is not as bad as it might be, pending further investigation of the status of a meniscus tear in starting Celtics center Robert Williams III being reported on by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Williams hurt his knee in Boston’s blowout win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday evening, initially diagnosed as a sprained knee. Now, Wojnarowski reports that Timelord “has suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee and will minimally miss several weeks,” a significant blow to the team that surged up from 11th place to seize the league’s top spot with that win over Minnesota.
“Further evaluation today will help provide a timetable,” according to Woj, meaning the possibility remains that Williams could rejoin the team in the postseason should the Celtics still be in the mix — but could also very well be done for the season.
