Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja announced Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember at today's Xbox Games Showcase live stream, giving Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty a sequel after three years.
Wo Long 2 is coming in 2027 to all platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and even Nintendo Switch 2. Team Ninja says it will launch in "early 2027," though we don't have an exact date to put to that just yet.
February is looking like a safe bet, as it's also looking like the next September: a jam-packed month of releases, only this time it's publishers squeezing games into the fiscal calendar rather than fleeing GTA 6's November launch.
The Wo Long 2 trailer description reads: "In this long-awaited sequel to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which has surpassed over 5 million players worldwide, players must master the evolved Chinese martial arts and conquer battlefields of the Three Kingdoms overrun by monstrous demons alongside renowned heroes who left their mark on history."
Our Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty review put it among the upper echelons of the Soulslike space, praising its parry-focused combat and strong aesthetic.
There's a lot of Team Ninja's Nioh series in Wo Long, for good and bad. The shared bones of combat are great, but the loot system can be hit-and-miss. In Wo Long, especially, it was hit-and-miss-and-miss-and-miss. But the Nioh series has improved this and other aspects over time, with Nioh 3 striking a much better balance. Here's hoping Wo Long 2 was taking notes.
