Wizz Air launches cheap flights to Grenoble from £12.99 in time for ski season

Winter is here and for the first time since the pandemic, ski holidays are back on the cards as the season is in full swing.

Whether you're dreaming of exploring the world's best ski resorts or hitting the slopes for the first time, the good news is that there are ways to head to the mountains without breaking the bank (meaning extra cash for the all-important après-ski!).

Wizz Air just added to those options, as it's launched new flights between London Gatwick and Grenoble in France, with fares starting from £12.99.

Grenoble airport is an ideal travel hub that has easy links to heaps of brilliant French ski resorts such as Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Alpe d'Huez and Les Arcs, all usually within two hours of reach.

The new flights will operate on Saturdays and Sundays, and can already be booked on the Wizz Air website, although it's worth noting the cheapest fares are subject to availability.

The £12.99 price tag won't include your luggage however - although it does include one small carry-on bag (max: 40x30x20cm) such as a handbag or laptop bag.

If you want to bring a second bag for the overhead locker, you can opt to upgrade to a WIZZ Priority booking which includes an additional cabin bag measuring no more than 55x40x23cm and weighing no more than 10kg. Alternatively you can also pay to add checked luggage to your booking.

Those bringing their own skis/sports equipment will also be charged an extra fee which can range between £40.50-£58 - you can find out more on the Wizz Air website here.

Still, if you can bag one of the cheap £12.99 fares going, it could still work out to be budget-friendly overall, especially if you're not bringing your own equipment.

If you've never been skiing before, then you may want to check out our guide on what to pack for the slopes to help give you an indication of the luggage space you'll need.

A lot of people tend to wear their ski jackets as part of their travel outfit to save some precious suitcase space, but you'll still need to pack plenty of bulky items such as big jumpers, thermals and socks, as well as some warm boots for the evenings when you're heading out for an evening of tucking into a glorious raclette or fondue.

We've also rounded up some of the best ski resorts for beginners with some easier slopes, plenty of ski schools and a great atmosphere so you can fully embrace the ski experience.
