Witnesses appeal following death of elderly woman after she was hit by truck in Dun Laoghaire

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an elderly woman died following a crash in Dun Laoghaire this morning.

The woman, who was in her 70s, died after she was hit by a truck on Lower George's Street at around 10am.

Emergency services raced to the scene with witnesses telling Dublin Live paramedics did "their best" to save the woman.

One witness told Dublin Live: "A elderly woman was crossing from Dunphy's Corner to where the VHI used to be, a delivery truck clipped her and she fell under the wheels.

"The paramedics raced over, they did their best.

"I saw the wind shake the truck it went from side to side. It happened in slow motion, it was awful to see."

A male driver in his late 30s and his male passenger also late 30s were treated at the scene for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

The road is currently closed as a forensic examination is being carried out at the scene, with diversions n place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

A garda spokesman said: "Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí."
