NEW YORK- Having added Alex Verdugo to reinforce their outfield and batting power, the Yankees are said to be on a hot pursuit of adding Dominican star Juan Soto for the 2024 season.
According to MLB.com, a source said a deal for Soto is "very likely" between the Yankees and the San Diego Padres.
With this move, the Yankees are stepping up their process to conform a strong contending team for next season, including top Latino talent in their roster.
A projected lineup, according to specialized media, would include Soto (left field), Gleyber Torres (SS), José Treviño (catcher) as starters.
Backup and bench players of Latino background in the outfield include the newly acquired Alex Verdugo (right field), Esteban Florial (center field), Everson Pereira (left field), Jasson Domínguez (center field), Óscar González (right field), and Oswaldo Cabrera (left field).
As for the infield, the Yankees have, besides Torres, third-baseman Oswald Peraza and Agustín Ramírez accompanying Treviño as catchers.
The Yankees' pitching staff includes these Latinos: Carlos Rodón, Jhony Brito, Jonathan Loáisiga, Luis Gil, Néstor Cortés, Nick Ramírez, Randy Vásquez, and Yoendrys Gómez.
