A Wishaw woman has hit the jackpot by wedding the man of her dreams in Las Vegas – three years to the day after meeting him in the same city.
Amy Kerr tied the knot with Duane Smith in a vintage Vegas ceremony, in the same chapel as several Hollywood icons exchanged vows.
The couple wed on April 19 – three years to the day when they first met, at a Rockabilly festival in the gambling mecca.
Now back home in Wishaw, 26-year-old Amy said: “Duane proposed right before the first lockdown. So once restrictions were lifted it seemed fitting that we would return to Vegas and get married.
“The Rockabilly festival where we met is the biggest of its kind in the world but because of Covid it hadn’t been back on so it made sense to go back over.
“The chapel we got married in was featured in the Elvis film, Viva Las Vegas and stars like Judy Garland and Richard Gere got married there.
“It was a small ceremony but it was perfect for us. We had a beautiful wedding reception in the Lake District which was attended by all our family and friends.”
Amy and 39-year-old Duane met in a bar at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly festival in 2019.
After swapping phone numbers, the couple travelled back and forth from Wishaw to Duane’s home in Workington, Cumbria.
Following lockdown, the couple moved into their home in Wishaw last November and can’t wait to spend the rest of their lives together,
“I would say it was definitely love at first sight,” said Amy.
“We started talking about a certain tattoo I have and it just went from there.
“It was unbelievable to go all the way to Vegas and meet someone who lived relatively close to me.
“During the first lockdown we went 12 weeks without seeing each other which was particularly difficult but we got through it.
“We moved in together at the end of last year and we’re really happy together.”
