Wishaw boss David Dunn knows he faces a big challenge to hold on to his 100 per cent start when they welcome Drumchapel United to the Beltane.
The West of Scotland League Conference C leaders come calling on Saturday and it will be the toughest test of Dunn’s reign so far, following five wins on the bounce since taking the reins from Mark Daly in December.
But Dunn – whose team were sidelined at the weekend when their WOSL Cup tie with Cambuslang Rangers suffered a late call-off due to a waterlogged pitch – is desperate to keep the streak going as sixth-place Wishy bid to break into the top four.
He said: “These are the types of games you want to be playing in and I believe our squad is more than capable of competing. It will be a good test and it will be good to see where we are now, in terms of our standards.
“It’s a massive game for the club and it will be my first home game as well. If we can take something out of it, it just keeps that run going.
“It’s always important to have that. The longer you go undefeated the more confidence you take.”
Drumchapel are a good side with top players. I watched them against [Lowland League] Caledonian Braves [in the cup] recently so I know it will be a tough test for us.
“As a manager, I want to test myself against the best teams in the league. We must start taking points off these so-called big teams if we want to climb the table and get to where they are.”
Last weekend’s call-off was a frustrating one with Somervell Park deemed unplayable just one hour before kick-off.
The game will now be rearranged but both clubs have fixtures outstanding, so Dunn is uncertain when round two tie will be played.
He added: “We were gutted on Saturday. We were all there but the referee wasn’t happy with a part of the pitch so there’s nothing we can do.
“I know Cambuslang have games to catch up on as well, so I don’t know when it will be played now. We’ve got a few weeks in March free so it could be then but we just need to wait and see.”
