Wishaw Muay Thai star targets even more success after Scottish title win

A Wishaw Muay Thai star has celebrated his first title since turning professional.

David Sinclair picked up the WBC Scottish title with a first round KO of his opponent.

The 21-year-old, who fights out of the Griphouse Gym in Glasgow, was elated following the win after a tough training camp.

He said: “Not many know the struggles of this fight camp having so many ups and downs.

“It was amazing to get the win, it was hard to explain.

“I was having to deal with a southpaw and had worked on him using left body kicks. I didn’t allow him to do that and the plan worked perfectly.”

David is now targeting the British or Celtic title in his next stage in his development.

And he maintains his work at the Griphouse is already reaping huge benefits giving him the chance to concentrate full-time on his training.

“The next stage has to be either the British or Celtic title,” said David.

“It’s the next step up, it’s going to be tough but I’ll be ready.

“It’s a massive benefit being at the gym full-time.

“There’s lots of great fighters from different sports and we feed of each other.”

David’s dad Brian was ringside for his son’s victory.

And having travelled up and down the country with him since his amateur days, Brian is delighted with David’s progress in the pro ranks.

He said: “I’m just pleased he is doing well at something he enjoys.

“I’m proud of David the same way I’m proud of all my kids.

“I can remember driving David and his twin Matthew to football years ago, David was a goalkeeper and he just decided that because he wasn’t enjoying it he wanted to do something else.

“He found Muay Thai and he’s just went on from there.

“The guys at the Griphouse have been brilliant. It’s almost like an apprenticeship where he goes and takes classes as well as doing his hours of training six days a week.

“He just needs to keep training hard and the rewards will come.”
