A Lanarkshire MP has been shortlisted for a prestigious national charity award.
Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows was honoured by blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan, at a digital awards celebration this week.
Mrs Fellows was shortlisted for the Political Supporter of the Year Award at the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards, for passionately lobbying for better support for stem cell transplant recipients and people with blood cancer.
Marion has been an active parliamentary champion of Anthony Nolan’s campaign to support stem cell transplant recipients and their families.
Having recently joined the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy during Blood Cancer Awareness Month, in September last year, Marion has used her voice to raise awareness of blood cancer patients in parliament.
While juggling her numerous parliamentary responsibilities, Marion has been open to meeting with employees at Anthony Nolan and is always on hand to provide advice and guidance on how to generate parliamentary support for blood cancer patients.
Marion said: “I am delighted to be nominated in the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards this year. Anthony Nolan does vital work to support and amplify the voices of blood cancer patients across Scotland and the UK.
“It is essential that people living with blood cancer have their voices heard in parliament and that lived experience shapes policy making decisions.
“I would like to thank the staff at Anthony Nolan for continuing to provide advocacy, wellbeing and treatment support to blood cancer patients across Scotland and the UK during this challenging time.”
The Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of the volunteers, fundraisers, clinical supporters and donors who help the pioneering blood cancer charity save lives.
The awards, which are in their 8th year, have seen hundreds of people honoured for making the charity’s work possible. Celebrity winners have included Oscar winning actor Olivia Colman, reality star Bobby Norris and Olympic medallist Chris Newton.
Henny Braund, Chief Executive of Anthony Nolan, said: “It is remarkable to see how many people support our work to find a match for those in need of a stem cell transplant. Without them, none of our life-saving work would be possible.
“Congratulations to Marion Fellows. Your hard work advocating for the most vulnerable in society is truly inspiring.”
