A 10-year-old girl pulled a quarter-zip sweatshirt over her head, and the zipper caught the skin of her left upper eyelid. Her family trimmed the sweatshirt away at home, leaving the zipper and a rim of fabric still clamped to her face; they tried unsuccessfully to remove it, and then drove her to a community pediatric emergency department in Ohio.
She was previously healthy and, by the time she arrived, calm. She reported no pain in the eye itself and no change in her vision, and felt discomfort only when someone moved the zipper. No analgesia had been attempted before she got there.
