Michael Milton's outstanding winter Paralympic comeback still needs to be signed off by the Australian team's chief medical officer.
The 52-year-old great was among five para alpine skiers named on Friday night (AEDT) for the Milan-Cortina Paralympics.
But Milton needed surgery earlier this month to fix a fracture at the top of his amputated left leg.
He needs medical clearance before he can cap the longest wait between Games for an Australian Paralympian.
Milton has won six gold medals across five winter Games, most recently in 2006, and is Australia's most decorated winter Paralympian.
At 52 years and 350 days when the Games start on March 6, Milton will be Australia's oldest winter Paralympian in its 50-year history, if he is cleared to race.
At the end of a training run in Colorado, Milton's ski slid out from under him on a slick patch of snow.
He fell heavily on the stump of his left leg, which had been amputated when Milton was nine because of bone cancer.
Milton had an ambitious goal of qualifying in all five alpine disciplines for Milan-Cortina - slalom, giant slalom, super-G, downhill, and the combined (downhill and slalom). He made the team in giant slalom and slalom.
In contrast to Milton's longevity, at 16 his teammate Liana France will become Australia's youngest female winter Paralympian.
She will also compete in the giant slalom and slalom.
Josh Hanlon, a former AFL prospect and now a para alpine sit skier, will compete in all five alpine events.
Georgia Gunew and guide Ethan Jackson were named for the women's giant slalom and slalom.
Friday's selections completed the Australian team for the Paralympics - 12 athletes and two guides across four sports.
The team is highlighted by two summer Paralympic gold medallists who have switched to winter events, Amanda Reid and Lauren Parker.
Reid, also Australia's first Indigenous winter Paralympian, has switched from track cycling to para snowboarding.
Parker, who won gold in para triathlon and para cycling at the Paris 2024 Games, will compete in biathlon and cross-country.
