An Ayrshire figure skater making his Team GB Olympic debut has claimed a top 10 spot in the figure skating mixed ice dance.
Lewis Gibson, from Prestwick, and partner Lilah Fear’s Lion King routine saw the pair place tenth on the 38th anniversary of Torvill and Dean’s iconic gold medal-winning ‘Bolero’ skate.
Lewis and Lilah wowed both the judges and the audience with their display to the ‘Circle of Life’ from Lion King.
After scoring 76.45 in the rhythm dance on Saturday, they received 115.19 in their expressive free dance, enough to seal a place in the top 10.
The duo’s performance on Saturday saw them receive praise from American glam rock band KISS, after rocking out to their tune ‘I Was Made For Loving You’ in a medley of tunes for their short programme.
The routine saw them turning up the tempo from the usual piano medleys.
KISS took to Twitter to share a video of Lewis and Lilah skating and said: “How cool is this?! Team Great Britain figure skating ice dance duo Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson rocked the 2022 Winter Olympics with KISS! #KISSisEverywhere!”
And the world’s longest running KISS tribute band, Dressed to Kill, also commented on Ayrshire Live’s good luck post to the pair on Saturday morning, saying their performance was worth VIP tickets to their Glasgow show in April.
Their Winter Olympic success follows the pair's seventh finish at the 2021 World Championships in Stockholm.
