In an end to end contest that saw a 16 minute delay due to a knee injury suffered by Wexford defender Della Doherty, Peamount led 3-2 into the closing stages before Walsh's vital intervention.
Earlier, reigning champions Shels beat Sligo Rovers courtesy of Abbie Larkin's brace to secure a crucial three points at Tolka Park.
That result moved Noel King's side to the top of the table, while Wexford's dramatic draw secured in Greenogue leaves the Youths a point behind the Reds.
Meanwhile, In-form Athlone's ambitions of a first ever WNL title triumph are still alive after Muireann Devanney's 24th minute goal clinched victory at home to Galway.
If there is stalemate between Wexford and Shels and Athlone win away to seventh placed Bohemians at Dalymount Park, then the midlanders will play off with Shels for the league trophy.
Athlone and Shels will face each other in the Women's FAI Cup final at Tallaght Stadium on Sunday, November 6.
