Windhorst: Lakers and Hawks will resume Dejounte Murray talks soon

At 19-21 and in 11th place in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers are facing the distinct possibility of missing the play-in tournament for the second time in three seasons.

If they do so, it would be a big blemish for the organization and for the legacy of LeBron James, who has guided the Lakers to a top-six finish only once in his five previous seasons with them.

Reportedly, they have looked to ramp up their pursuit of Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray on the trade market. The teams have already had talks regarding a potential trade, per Adrian Wojnarowski.

Brian Windhorst said on “The Hoop Collective” that they’re set to resume those talks very soon (h/t Lakers Daily).

“I know that the Lakers and the Hawks have talked,” Windhorst said. “And I know that it was like, ‘OK, check back after Jan. 15.’”

Murray, a 6-foot-5 combo guard, is known for his speed, defense and scoring ability, and he’s shooting an excellent percentage from 3-point range this season. The Lakers are reportedly prioritizing more speed and athleticism on the trade market.
