A retired wind-turbine blade became the main structural element of a pedestrian and cycling bridge over Poland's Szprotawa River in 2021. The project was developed in the town of Szprotawa by Anmet, which is a local company working with the Rzeszów University of Technology on ways to reuse composite wind-turbine components. The bridge was built after residents had lacked a convenient pedestrian crossing at the location for a long time, and engineers incorporated it into a new crossing that connected parts of the town that were separated by the river instead of sending the used blade to disposal. The Szprotawa municipal government reported in December 2021 that construction of the pedestrian and cycling route had been completed and that the new bridge had been built using a wind-turbine blade.
