London institution Le Gavroche, which closed after 57 years in January, will return this summer to take up residency at Wimbledon.
The Roux family’s famous French restaurant is to partner with sports entertainment group Keith Prowse at the tennis championships, serving a full tasting menu at the Lawn, Wimbledon’s fine dining space.
Keith Prowse described the new offer as “ultra-premium,” combining Le Gavroche with one of the world’s most prestigious tennis tournaments, in a move billed to run every year.
The cheese trolley from the original Gavroche will feature, as will Champagne and fine wines, while Michel Roux will be on the pass.
“When we announced the closure of the restaurant, we said that the Le Gavroche name will live on, and this will be a Wimbledon experience to remember,” said Roux.
“It’s not just a chance to enjoy an iconic Le Gavroche menu, but also to be surrounded with some of the memorabilia that made Le Gavroche a welcoming and beautiful place to enjoy for so many years.”
The partnership marks the first of many, with Roux promising a series of supper clubs, dinners and events as he called time on the Mayfair restaurant.
At Wimbledon, artefacts from Le Gavroche — those not set to be sold at an upcoming auction — are to be paired with the Lawn Tennis Association’s museum archives.
Keith Prowse managing director Andy Vinsen said: “We are very excited to bring the 'Menu Exceptionnel’ of Le Gavroche to the iconic SW19 this summer, and for years to come.
“In line with a core pillar of ‘never being satisfied’, we love what we do and challenge ourselves every day to do it better.”
Usama Al-Qassab, from The All England Lawn Tennis Club, added: “We are delighted to welcome Michel Roux and ‘Le Gavroche at The Lawn’ to The Championships 2024.
“We are confident the addition of this exceptional menu from ‘Le Gavroche at The Lawn’ will be warmly welcomed.”
