Wimbledon crowds arrive to see Andy Murray and Roger Federer ahead of the second day

Andy Murray returned to action at Wimbledon with a straight-sets victory over Ryan Peniston under the royal eye of Roger Federer and the Princess of Wales Kate Middelton. Murray raced to a 6-3 6-0 6-1 victory in just over two hours as the eight-time Wimbledon champion Federer made a special guest appearance on Centre Court to mark his retirement from the sport last September.
