Roberto Bautista Agut has become the third seeded player in the men’s draw to pull out of Wimbledon after contracting Covid-19.
The Spaniard, the tournament’s No17 seed, had been scheduled to face Colombia’s Daniel Galan in the second round at SW19 on Thursday.
But just before play started, he announced that he had tested positive for coronavirus and withdrawn from the championships.
In a statement on social media, Bautista Agut said: “Sadly, today I have notified the organisation of Wimbledon of my withdrawal from the competition. Yesterday, I started not feeling very well and I tested positive for Covid-19.
Hoy he notificado a @Wimbledon mi baja. He dado positivo en Covid-19. Afortunadamente, los síntomas no son muy graves, pero creo que es la mejor decisión. Gracias por vuestro apoyo. Espero volver pronto.

“Symptoms are not very serious but I think this is the best decision. Thank you for all your support always. I hope to be back on court soon.”
Former Wimbledon runner-up Marin Cilic had been the first high-profile withdrawal of the championships before last year’s runner-up Matteo Berrettini, who was among the tournament favourites, followed suit.
