Cameron Norrie contests the first Grand Slam quarter-final of his career against David Goffin this afternoon. The British No1 had never previously gone beyond the third round of a major tournament before an impressive run at the All England Club that has so far included wins over Pablo Andujar, Jaume Munar, Steve Johnson and Tommy Paul.
The draw has no doubt been kind to the ninth seed, who will face his toughest challenge yet against former World No7 Goffin, who has knocked out Radu Albot, Sebastian Baez, Ugo Humbert and Frances Tiafoe so far. Norrie won the only previous meeting between this duo on the ATP Tour, with Goffin retiring hurt while trailing in Barcelona last year.
Despite the sense of occasion around Britain’s top-ranked male player reaching the last eight of his home Grand Slam for the first time, the 25-year-old has not been afforded Centre Court privileges today.
