Wilson's Health Uncertain, Siemian Prepares for Jets vs. Browns

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson (2) grimaces after he is sacked by Miami Dolphins linebacker Bradley Chubb (2) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, in Miami Gard

Hey there, football fanatics! We've got an update on the New York Jets and their potential starting quarterback dilemma for their upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. It seems like the Jets might have to wait and see how Zach Wilson's health progresses before making a decision.

According to Coach Robert Saleh, Wilson is still in the concussion protocol as of Monday morning. As for the details of his recovery, Saleh is keeping them with the docs for now. More information is expected to be revealed on Tuesday. So, while there's still hope for Wilson's availability, he's not out of the woods just yet.

With such a short turnaround between games, it could be challenging for Wilson to make it back in time for the clash against Cleveland. If he's unable to go, Trevor Siemian will take the reins for the second consecutive game after leading the Jets to a thrilling 30-28 victory over Washington on Sunday.

Saleh emphasized the uncertainty around Wilson's situation, saying, 'We'll see how everything goes with Zach, for sure.' It seems like the Jets are keeping their options open and preparing for any scenario.

For those curious about Siemian's performance in his first start for the Jets, he completed 27 of 49 passes for 217 yards. He threw a touchdown pass to Jason Brownlee but also had an interception against Washington. It was Siemian's first start since last season when he was with the Chicago Bears, and ironically, that game resulted in a loss against the Jets. However, he did end a six-game personal drought with his victory on Sunday.

Following the win, Siemian expressed his joy and appreciation for being part of the team. He highlighted the importance of winning for his teammates and coaches and mentioned the rush of those heartfelt moments. It's clear that Siemian cherishes these experiences and plans to hold onto them for a while.

Siemian now finds himself as the fourth quarterback to start for the Jets this season, which is only the second time in franchise history they have had that many starters. The season began with the high expectations of Aaron Rodgers under center, but unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear after just four snaps. Wilson and Tim Boyle also struggled to generate consistent offense, leaving the Jets ranking at the bottom of the league in numerous categories.

Criticism has surrounded Saleh, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, and general manager Joe Douglas for constructing a system and roster heavily reliant on Rodgers. The abrupt injury forced the Jets into a challenging pivot that they haven't fully recovered from. However, Saleh defended their approach, stating that building around a Hall of Fame quarterback is a common practice throughout the league. He admitted that adjustments could have been made better in light of the worst-case scenario, but assures fans that they will learn from their experiences, hopefully improving in 2024.

Despite the criticism, Saleh and Douglas received a vote of confidence from owner Woody Johnson. In an interview with the New York Post before Sunday's game, Johnson expressed his commitment to the current football leadership. Saleh revealed that he and Douglas have daily conversations with Johnson, who continually challenges them to progress and improve the organization.

As for the injury report, tight end Jeremy Ruckert is currently in the concussion protocol. Saleh has already ruled him out for the game against Cleveland. In light of the short turnaround time, the team will focus on walkthrough practices over the next two days to prepare for the critical matchup.

So, Jets fans, stay tuned for more updates on Zach Wilson's health and the final decision on the starting quarterback against the Browns. Will it be Wilson or Siemian? Only time will tell. In the meantime, let's rally behind the team as they aim for another thrilling victory on Thursday night!

That's all for now, folks! Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting NFL news.
