Willie Collum named Rangers vs Celtic referee for title showdown at Ibrox

The pivotal derby clash on Sunday will be refereed by Willie Collum.

Collum has been handed the Ibrox showdown that will likely go a long way in deciding the destination of the Scottish Premiership trophy.

A win for Celtic would put them six points ahead of Rangers although Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side will be hell-bent on following up their home win in August over their rivals with another success that will drag them right back in the hunt.

Only a handful of officials were likely to have been given the gig. Bobby Madden was the referee in the last Old Firm duel which Ange Postecoglou’s side won 3-0.

John Beaton was another who could have been in the frame but he hasn’t landed the biggest domestic fixture in this country since August 2021 when Rangers emerged victorious.

Instead, Collum will be the man in the middle this weekend – his first Old Firm derby since May 2021, a game that saw Rangers beat their city rivals 4-1.

The 43-year-old, who was subject of a complaint by the Ibrox giants back in 2019, will be assisted by Graeme Stewart and David Roome with Nick Walsh the fourth official.
