William Saliba endured a horror moment against Leicester City when the defender headed into his own net past Aaron Ramsdale. He was forced into a situation with a ball over the top he felt he needed to deal with but ultimately made an error in executing his clearance.
The reaction from the Arsenal crowd after his own goal was a strong moment. The cheers of support for the young player buoyed him and he recovered quickly and finished the game strongly.
Mikel Arteta said after the game: “I think the crowd was special, especially after Saliba’s own goal. The way they reacted was something I’ve never seen in football; the amount of support and connection they are showing with us, and especially with William, lifted the team straight away. I have to thank them so much for that.”
