Even though the Barbie movie is yet to be released, a recent source claims that a Ken spin-off film may already be in production at Warner Bros.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel) is the source of the rumour. However, it is yet to be confirmed by the company.
If the rumour is accurate, it claims the project is still in its early phases and no further names have been attached.
Thanks in part to Ryan Gosling's dryly humorous interview statements regarding his character's Ken-ergy, his portrayal of Ken has emerged as a scene stealer in the lead-up campaign to the film.
Barbie, scheduled for a July 21 release, follows Barbie and Ken as they have the time of their lives in the colourful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. But, as soon as they have the chance to experience life in the outside world, they learn about the rewards and dangers of coexisting with people.
Greta Gerwig, an Oscar nominee, directed Barbie based on a screenplay she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach.
Barbie is played by Margot Robbie opposite Ken, played by Gosling. Along with Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Scott Evans as additional Kens, they are joined by Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, Emerald Fennell, Kate McKinnon, Ritu Arya, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, and Nicola Coughlan as additional Barbies.
The movie based on the Mattel doll is anticipated to gross up to $80 million (£62 million) in its first three days, according to Warner Bros.
The studio will probably wait to announce a Ken movie till Barbie shows to be a commercial hit.
Gerwig’s next project after Barbie is a deal with Netflix to write and direct at least two films based on CS Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia.
