You probably don’t need reminding that Covid brought the country and the capital to its knees. It snuck up on us thanks to the speed of modern-day air travel — putting London right in the crosshairs of the pandemic.
Since then, time, effort, and political and scientific capital has been invested to try and give us a headstart on identifying, then heading off, the next pandemic before it begins. And much of this work focuses on what we flush down our toilets and what passes under Londoners’ feet every day through its sewers.
