Will Smith to appear in David Letterman interview shortly after Chris Rock slap

Will Smith is set to sit down with David Letterman for a candid chat just weeks after the actor sensationally slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars.

The singer/actor, 53, took offence to a GI Jane joke the comedian made about wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and decided to storm the stage and assault him.

Unfortunately for fans looking for answers, Will's chat with the veteran presenter, 75, was filmed prior to the event.

However, it is still set to be an open and honest discussion on Letterman's new season of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.

Smith's appearance is due to air on May 20, with other celebs lined up to appear on the six-part series including Cardi B, Kevin Durant, Billie Eilish, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Ryan Reynolds.

The Oscars incident was world news following the event at the end of March.

It all kicked off as comedian Chris made a joke about Jada's buzzcut, saying: "Jada, can't wait for GI Jane 2."

Will - who went on to win Best Actor later in the evening - originally seemed to laugh at the comment, but then walked up to the stage and slapped the presenter, before returning to his seat and yelling: "Keep my wife's name out of your f****** mouth."

The comedian's joke was a reference to the 1997 movie G.I Jane - which starred Demi Moore sporting a buzzcut similar to Jada's.

Jada has previously spoken out about her decision to shave her head, after suffering from alopecia.

The stunning scenes led to Smith being banned from the Oscars for the next 10 years.

He accepted the decision after the investigation into his actions saw the Board comment: "The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards."

While Rock has so far shunned any advance to discuss the slap, his family members have continued to condemn the actor's actions.

Following on from his brother offering the iRobot star to take part in a boxing match, Rock's mum slammed him too.

She said: "When Will slapped Chris, he slapped all of us, but he really slapped me.

"When you hurt my child, you hurt me."
