In search of a better and faster alternative to the humble Tesco meal deal, Will Shu quit Morgan Stanley to set up his own delivery empire.
Shu, from Connecticut but is now based in London, started Deliveroo in 2013 as the company’s first delivery rider and will still do a shift for £10 an hour a few times a month to stay in shape as well as experience what life is like for his employees. For two weeks he even worked undercover as a Just Eat rider to see what he was up against.
He told Business Insider he once delivered pizza to a former investment fund colleague. “I hadn’t talked to him in like three years… He didn’t understand that I started the company. He just thought I was a delivery guy.”
