Will Saquon Barkley skip the Giants’ offseason program?

New York Giants head coach said that did not know whether his star running back, Saquon Barkley, will be present when the team’s offseason program kicks off on April 17.

“I don’t know,” said head coach Brian Daboll at the NFL league meetings in Arizona on Tuesday. “That would be a good question for Saquon.”

Barkley reportedly does not want to play under the franchise tag and has not signed the attached tender. He is seeking a long-term deal that will pay him more per annum than the one-year, $10.1 million franchise tender will pay him.

General manager Joe Schoen said on Monday that there is no current offer on the table other than the franchise tag. The team had previously offered a deal worth $12.5 million a year that was rejected by the Barkley camp.

The issue here is that the Giants know the market for running backs has dropped in price since free agency began. Many believe Barkley will have to actually take less than the franchise tag price if he is to continue his Giants career past 2023.
