Will Pucovski has suffered another concussion, forcing the prodigious batting talent to be substituted in Victoria's Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at Adelaide Oval.
Pucovski left the field on Saturday during South Australia's second innings.
He was reportedly struck on the head during Saturday's warm-up for the final day of the match, which ended in a draw.
The 24-year-old was making his first-class comeback after being on the sidelines for much of the domestic season because of concussion.
"Victoria has activated the concussion substitute against South Australia at Adelaide Oval. Will Pucovski will be replaced in the XI by Travis Dean," a Victorian team statement read.
"Pucovski reported concussion symptoms to medical staff while fielding this morning.
"He is being monitored by our medical staff."
After the match, Victorian coach Chris Rogers said team staff would take a cautious approach with managing Pucovski's condition.
"It is a really delicate situation, given his history and everything he has gone through," he said.
"He received a knock this morning and from there he just started to feel the symptoms of concussion.
"He came in and spoke to our physio and the doctor and from there we had the concussion sub come in.
"He wanted to see if he could go out and have a hit in the nets, but the symptoms were there and in the end he spoke to the doctor and we felt that it (batting) probably wasn't worth it, and from there it was a case of what do we need to do for him."
It is believed to be Pucovski's 11th concussion of his career.
Prior to the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide, his most recent bout was in October, which ruled him out contention for the men's Ashes series.
Pucovski has been restricted to one Test appearance, having made his debut against India in the third match of last summer's series.
He was expected to make his Test debut in the series opener against India, but was ruled out of the opening two matches after being concussed while playing for Australia A.
The Victorian eventually made his debut at the SCG, scoring 62 in the first innings.
But he was ruled out of the fourth and final Test at the Gabba because of a shoulder injury.
Pucovski's injury required surgery.
