Will Pucovski's bid to force his way back into the Australian set-up will begin in low-key fashion on Monday when he lines up for Victoria's second XI outfit against NSW in Coffs Harbour.
Pucovski, who has been concussed at least 11 times throughout his career, played his one and only Test for Australia in January, 2021.
The 24-year-old is viewed as a generational talent, but repeat concussions have derailed his international prospects time and time again.
His most recent concussion came in February, when his return to Sheffield Shield ranks lasted just four days after copping a soccer ball to the head during a warm-up.
Pucovski was able to return from that setback, but Australia opted against taking him on tour for Test duties or include him in the Australia A tour of Sri Lanka.
However, he was recently part of a group of eight players who took part in a 10-day training camp in Chennai, showing he remains a key part of Australia's Test plans.
The talented opener will now have the chance to continue his progress when he lines up for the Victorian second XI for the September 12-15 clash against NSW second XI.
Last month, Pucovski opened up to Cricinfo about his concussion battles.
"It's been a bit of a reality check - that cricket isn't everything and there is so much more to life," Pucovski said.
"For me, it's just been good to learn so much about myself as a person, (rather than) if I'd just had a breezy ride and walked into every team and did well.
"I definitely have no regrets or sadness because of anything that's happened. It's all a part of the journey to take me to where I am."
Victorian Second XI Squad: Travis Dean (capt), Ashley Chandrasinghe, Sam Elliott, Sam Harper, Campbell Kellaway, Cameron McClure, Jono Merlo, Tom O'Connell, Fergus O'Neill, Wil Parker, Mitch Perry, Will Pucovski.
