Once the Tennessee Titans drafted quarterback Will Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft, we were able to get an idea of how much Tennessee’s newest signal-caller will make on a rookie contract.
According to Spotrac, Levis is projected to make $9.5 million over the course of his standard four-year rookie contract, with an estimated signing bonus of $3.9 million and a 2023 cap hit of $1.7 million.
There were rumblings that the Titans were trying to trade back into the first round before they ultimately landed Levis in the second. Had they done so and picked Levis, he would’ve had a fifth-year option.
As far as his role for 2023 is concerned, head coach Mike Vrabel said Levis is currently No. 3 on the depth chart behind Ryan Tannehill and Malik Willis, although he left it open to change.
“Ryan will be the starting quarterback on Monday,” Vrabel said. “Malik will be the backup. Will will be the third quarterback. And what I’ve told them is whatever happens after that will be up to the players. That’s what it’s always been here. That’s what we always want it to be.”
If Levis can show he’s ready in Year 1, he’ll likely be handed the keys to the car, which would also allow Tennessee to part ways with Tannehill, which would free up money and quite possibly net them a pick if he’s traded.
Levis stepping into a starting role aearly on in his career is also important because it gives Tennessee multiple years with a franchise quarterback on a cheap rookie deal, allowing the team to beef up the roster around him and really make a run.
