Cold weather has made a comeback in Scotland as the Met Office says wintry showers could hit "almost any area in the UK".
Bitter Arctic winds swept in this week, bringing morning frosts and flurries of snow, particularly over high ground.
A yellow warning for ice is in force for eastern and northeastern Scotland until 10am today.
The Met Office has forecasted more snow and sleet ahead as sub-zero temperatures are possible overnight on Friday for much of the UK.
This weekend, the cold weather could fall below the lowest temperature in the UK recorded yesterday - a chilling -6C in Dalwhinnie.
Isolated rural areas in northern Scotland could see the mercury drop as low as -8C at night, the forecaster predicts.
The sharp return back to winter is due to an Arctic airmass pushing southwards down the country.
Friday's weather will see sunny spells and temperatures in Scotland ranging 5 to 9C due to lighter winds, said BBC Weather meteorologist Kirsty McCabe.
The mercury will fall close to or below freezing overnight Friday with a risk of ice.
If you're tired of this cold snap, the Met Office says its days are limited.
According to the forecaster, temperatures will gradually recover to near-average over the weekend and into the start of next week.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Ramsdale said, "As cold air continues to be drawn down from the north there is the potential for wintry showers to affect almost any area of the UK.
"Although there's unlikely to be widespread accumulations of snow there is a risk of some disruption in eastern and southeastern areas."
He continued: "The best of any clear and sunny spells through the rest of this week are likely to be in the south and west of the UK, but it will definitely feel colder than it has over the last week or so."

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday
Dry and bright in the south on Sunday. Otherwise, often cloudy with rain at times, this most persistent in the northwest, with some drier, brighter spells in the southeast.
