Manchester United loanee Will Fish has praised club captain Harry Maguire and centre-half colleague Raphael Varane for their input prior to his loan move to Hibernian.
The 19-year-old is enjoying the second loan of his career following an unsuccessful stay at Stockport County last season. The teenager was called into United’s pre-season tour squad after the exit of Axel Tuanzebe, although had an outing to forget against Crystal Palace after being shown a red card 19 minutes after coming on from the bench.
He’s been sent elsewhere for his development this season to gain more first-team minutes as he spies a breakthrough at Old Trafford. When making the move, Fish explained how former Reds midfielder and now coach Darren Fletcher gave him an encouraging review of Hibernian.

“I spoke to Fletch on the way up,” he said, via The Edinburgh Evening News. “He said Hibs is a great place to go, a massive club, with great fans so he thought the same as me.
“He’s great with us. He oversees training every day for the first team and he helps sort out players making that next step up to the first team from the 23s.”
Fish earned his competitive senior debut in the last minute of the club’s 2-1 win over Wolves on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign. He hopes to gain more opportunities down the line with an impressive stint at Hibs.
“The main purpose of going on loan is getting you ready to hopefully one day go back and play for them,” he added. “So, the move is about game-time and maturing, and trying to become a leader – stuff like that.”
During his time in and around the United first team over the summer, Fish explained how Maguire and Varane had given him advice on how to improve his game. He said: “Big names like Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane teach you the game, the little tricks and all that.
“I’m thankful for their help. Harry was great. I joined the tour late but he brought me into the group and helped me.
“Even just training with these guys is a boost, and everything that comes with it – the media attention, standard of training, all of that is good. It’s a great feeling to represent the club you grew up supporting, every time you pull the shirt on, with all the past players who have come through there."
Fish was named on the bench for Hibs’ clash with Kilmarnock last week but is yet to make his debut for the Premiership outfit.
