Will Ferrell visits Manchester and becomes 'best friends' with Jack Grealish

Hollywood royalty arrived in Manchester at the weekend - and film star Will Ferrell soon found himself making some new friends here. American actor Will made a surprise appearance at Manchester City to watch their Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Anchorman and Elf star Will is in the UK on an apparent whistlestop tour of football stadia - having previously stunned Wrexham fans by watching them beat Wealdstone 3-1 on Saturday in the National League tie. He even headed for a pint at a Welsh pub before kick-off.

Will, who co-owns American soccer team LA Galaxy, then swiftly headed over to Manchester on Sunday for the big game at the Etihad. And after the match on Sunday it appears he made "best friends" with Blues star Jack Grealish.

A clearly delighted Jack posted a series of photos and a selfie he took with Will after the game, which saw City beat Jack's hometown club Aston Villa 3-1. Jack wrote: "Did we just become best friends??? What a man."

Even Jack's famous followers were suitably impressed by his new Elf buddy. Rocker Tom Grennan wrote: "Bruv that's ledge," while former City goalkeeper Shay Given gave it a couple of heart-eye emojis.

An account that claims to be the Official Will Ferrell also shared a photo with Jack, with the message: "Great to meet my new British friend @JackGrealish at the Etihad today. He told me to buy Birmingham City and to get them relegated to league 2."

Will had earlier been seeen on Sky Sports discussing the game alongside Manchester United legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane. He looked particularly pleased to meet up with Roy again, explaining to fans where they had met before.

He said: "Roy and I had the pleasure of playing in Soccer Aid." The big celebrity charity game, organised by Robbie Williams, has previously played at Old Trafford.

And when asked about his trip across the Atlantic, the American said: "I'm on a recruiting trip for LAFC, I'm seeing if [Man City] measure up to the MLS. I don't really have a side over here, I just enjoy following all the storylines, it's obviously a very good league."

Ferrell had gone viral on Twitter on Saturday after being spotted in a local Wrexham pub, The Turf, ahead of the National League side's 3-1 win against Wealdstone. The 55-year-old has previously watched the Welsh outfit at Wembley and is friends with Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

He's been having quite the journey around the region, as he was also spotted in Liverpool on Saturday having a meal at restaurant Mamasan before he dashed off to Wrexham for the game.
