Will England win the Women's Euro 2022? Latest odds and predictions

Just hours ahead of the Lionesses opening match against Austria at Old Trafford, bookies have given the home side the second best odds in the tournament.

Spain are the firm favourites to win Euro 2022 with Ladbrokes giving 3/1 odds, shortly followed by England with 7/2 chances.

England head coach Sarah Wiegman’s home team, the Netherlands, are given 6/1 odds and France are awarded 11/2.

Sweden and Germany are coming up at the rear with 13/2 and 15/2 odds a piece.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “The Lionesses are firm frontrunners along with Spain to go all the way at the Euros, and if football is to come home this year, the odds suggest it'll be because of Ellen White and co over Gareth Southgate's men."

The team are managed by Dutch international former player, Sarah Wiegman, who brought the Netherlands to Euros victory in 2017.

In her 14-game tenure, England have yet to lose a game, won 12 and have scored 84 goals yet only conceded three.

She also brought her home team to the final of the World Cup in 2019, but ultimately lost 2-0 to the United States.

Her confirmation to England was in 2020, and she was originally intending to take over from previous head coach Phil Neville after the Euros, but he resigned early to manage David Beckham’s Inter Miami side.

Speaking to the Guardian, Manchester City and England winder Lauren Hemp said of the head coach: "Since she’s come in you’ve seen a massive change in the style and the way we play.

"She’s always told me to have freedom, express myself, and I think that’s what I’ve needed. She’s been on the winning side, so we’ve got so much trust and confidence in her. She’s telling us what we need to know to ensure that, come the Euros, we’re the best."

England are desperate to win this year after a devastating loss by the men’s team to Italy in the Euro 2020 finals.

The women’s team lost to Holland in the 2017 Euros under Mark Sampson’s management, with a crushing 3-0 victory after a series of defensive blunders.

The entire competition is 31 matches and England are confident they will get through the first round.

Northern Ireland have also qualified for the first time, and though not the favourites, they are determined to make their mark on the tournament.

Lauren Hemp is regarded the star player of the squad, having just collected her fourth PFA Young Player of the Year award and scored 20 goals and assisted ten last season.

A close second favourite is forward Ellen White, who became the top goal scorer for the Lionesses during their record-breaking 20-0 win on November 30 2021 to Latvia, in a European qualifying match for the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup.

Viewers for this tournament have also jumped massively since 2017, as interest in the women’s sport and funding increases.

Every England match will be broadcast by talkSPORT, and Northern Ireland's games in England’s group will also be shown on the same network.

This includes their game against Norway and Austria, and lead commentator Sam Matterface will be heading up England coverage.

Games can also be watched on the BBC, with former player and presenter Alex Scott, and Gabby Logan leading the coverage.

Tonight's game against Austria kicks off at 8pm.
