Wilko pick n mix loophole for parents as retailer brings back half price deal

Home and garden retailer Wilko have brought back one of their most popular deals in time for half term - and it’s ideal for parents looking for a cheap way to entertain the kids on a budget.

The high street store’s half price pick ‘n’ mix offer is back, which sees their cups of confectionary slashed to just £1. Ideal for a trip to the cinema or a cosy movie night in, the cut-price candy is sure to be a firm favourite with little ones and adults alike.

Whether you go for old fashioned classics or fun and fizzy sweets, we all know by now that the aim of the game is to cram as many sweets as physically possible into these cups while still being able to get a lid on.

And until February 20, shoppers will be able to get double the amount of sweets for the same price. Wilko’s XL cups are usually £4, but have been reduced to £2, while large are down to £1.50 from £3, and regular are a quid, down from £2 - but you’ll get plenty of tasty treats no matter which option you go for.

Some of the sweets you could pack into your cup include cola bottles, cherries, vanilla fudge, milk teeth, strawberries, fizzy bubble bottles, jelly beans and jazzies.

But, did you know that there’s a way to get even more sweets for ‘free’? We previously headed to Wilko to see if two £1 cups of sweets got you the same amount as one of the £2 XL cups and discovered some unlikely findings.

We placed the same number of sweets in each of the cups, only to discover that you actually get way more space in the XL cups. Back at home, we weighed the cups to see how much more we had managed to fit in the XL cup, and found that the two regular cups weighed 608g. Meanwhile, the share cup came to 713g - over 100g more.

This means that if you have two children, it actually works out better value to fill up one of the XL cups, and then divide them into separate bags or pots at home, gaining roughly an extra 50g of sweets per child.

The offer for half price pick n mix launched in stores on Friday (February 10) and will be running until February 20. - just make sure you're getting the most for your money!
