Wilko and Tesco shoppers run to buy 'brilliant' 25p item that slashes energy bills

Wilko, B&M and Tesco shoppers have spotted one item that could come in handy this winter as energy bills soar.

It's something most of us use every day, but a brand new formula means it could help slash heating bills this winter - and it could cost as little as 25p.

The washing up liquid company Fairy has brought out a new dish soap that can be used in cold water instead of hot, Manchester Evening News reports. It recently caught the attention of bargain hunters on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK.

Fairy has confirmed that it does work with colder temperatures, and there's now even a Christmas-inspired scent that shoppers have been obsessing over.

Posting in the Facebook group, one bargain fan said: "Fairy have brought out a new liquid that can be used in cool water to save people running the hot tap with the extreme energy prices …. I suppose every little helps."

Some people were put off by the idea of washing the dishes in cold water. One said: "Why would you want to wash up in cold water?" Another agreed: "Couldn't think of owt worse than having my hands in a bowl of cold water right now."

However, others were keen to try it out and see how well it worked. One person said: "This is a brilliant idea not just for money saving but what about if your boiler goes? You still need to wash up and cheaper than boiling the kettle twice just to rinse some dishes."

One shopper also said that they'd tried the Christmas version, which is in a Wild Berry scent, and said it smelled "awesome".

You can buy the non-Christmas scented version of the cold water washing up liquid in Wilko stores for 25p. If you want the Christmas version, which has a wild berry scent and apparently smells 'amazing', you can get a 870ml bottle in B&M for £2.79, or in Tesco for £3.
