Wilfried Zaha reacts with disgust after being asked about Manchester United return

Wilfried Zaha has left Manchester United fans in no doubt about his feelings about a possible return to his former club.

The Crystal Palace winger has not travelled with Patrick Vieira’s squad for their pre-season Australia visit so did not line up against the Reds on Tuesday. The 29-year-old had a tough period at Old Trafford, playing just four times between 2013 and 2015.

He has since rebuilt his career at Palace, where has has been since his United exit seven years ago despite frequent links with top clubs. United have not been among these potential suitors and it seems Zaha is quite happy about that.

Those at Palace who have not travelled to Australia have been putting in the miles on English soil instead. Palace fielded a team that beat Gillingham 3-2 on Tuesday with Zaha netting two.

When greeting fans after the game, the attacker was asked by one youngster if he was “going to United” on camera. After a pause, Zaha replied, aghast: “What?! What on earth?” before walking off with a sigh. The video was uploaded to TikTok afterwards.

Vieira recently underlined that Zaha is happy to remain at Palace despite ongoing links with European outfits, such as Roma. The player has spoken about his rough time at United on multiple occasions.

Speaking to The Greatest Game with Jamie Carragher podcast last year, he said: “I can say maybe it came at the wrong time, I was not mature enough.” He added: “I don’t really think I got an opportunity at all, I don’t know what the reason was.

“I never really got the opportunity to play in games at all, and then I just had to go out on loan. Up to now I don’t think I was given a fair chance.”
