Wilfried Zaha overtakes David Beckham, Yaya Toure and Alexis Sanchez and makes Chelsea statement

Wilfried Zaha's Crystal Palace price tag is just going up and up, even with only one year left to run on his current deal.

The Ivorian has started 2022/23 on red hot form and looks a man possessed as demonstrated by what has happened in his last two Premier League games. Jamie Carragher waxed lyrical on his goal at Anfield last week. Many supporters have done the same after the 29-year-old starred yet again in the Eagles' latest triumph at Selhurst Park against Aston Villa.

Ollie Watkins had given the visitors the lead after just five minutes but an inspired Zaha double, coupled with a Jean-Philippe Mateta goal, ensured that Patrick Vieira and the rest of the team have been able to forget about the opening night loss under the lights against an in-form Arsenal.

No wonder Chelsea could still yet move for a player who is hungry to prove a point at the top level after a failed Manchester United stint some years ago. Unfortunately, from the Blues' perspective, all focus from Todd Boehly's side appears to be on securing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Anthony Gordon.

The latter put in an average display in the Toffees' 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. Despite calls from sections of the Chelsea fanbase to consider the likes of Zaha, Ivan Toney and even Aleksandar Mitrovic after the trio's hot start to the campaign, Boehly seems intent on fully backing Tuchel.

Zaha may be considered, however, if the American considered Everton's £50million valuation of the young winger to be too excessive in the end but despite having one year left on his current deal, serious money will have to be tabled if the Eagles' No. 11 is to become a Blues player before September 1.

The current reality is that, barring a late dramatic U-turn, Zaha will remain a Palace player at the end of the transfer window and from there who knows what happens next in his career?

Does he commit the rest of his prime days to the south Londoners by signing a new contract or does he try and rectify his United mistake when he could potentially become a free agent in the summer?

Regardless of his decision, the Ivory Coast international will be remembered as a Premier League icon, especially after what the latest statistics suggest after Premier League game week 3.

This is because his 63rd and 64th career goal in the English top-flight means he has now surpassed David Beckham (62), Robert Pires (62), Yaya Toure (62) and (63) Alexis Sanchez in the goalscoring charts.

Chelsea fans- Would you prefer the double swoop of Wilfried Zaha and Ivan Toney together or do you prefer the current plan consisting of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Anthony Gordon? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
