Wildlife clearance sought for electrification of habitations

Telangana Energy authorities have sought clearance of over 200 acres of forest lands in the protected areas of the state, in order to lay power lines for electrification of several tribal hamlets, in the northern parts of the state.

The areas where wildlife clearances have been sought fall into the districts of Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, and Nirmal districts.

Proposals for clearance of a total 230 acres of forest lands in the wild life areas have been submitted by the Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited for approval by the Expert Appraisal Committee under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.

Largest of the clearances ranging up to 120 acres has been sought for erection of 11 kV high tension lines for supply of power to six tribal habitations and conversion of lines from single phase to three phase power for 30 habitations in Pembi and Kaddam mandals of Nirmal districts.

Over 55 acres of forest land has been sought under the wildlife areas of Kagaznagar Forest division in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district for electrification of one ST habitation and conversion of lines from single phase to three phase for 15 habitations in various mandals.

Clearance also been sought for an extent of 41 acres of land for electrification of unelectrified habitations and conversion from single phase to three phase supply in 23 ST habitations in the Utnoor division of Adilabad district, besides 9.5 acres for laying 11 kV lines for Chna Ragi Dubba hamlet of Adilabad district, and 2.5 acres for electrification of Mallaguda tribal habitation in Asifabad district.

Of the 35 acres sought for electrification of 11 ST habitations in Adilabad district, 1.5 acres falls in the wildlife areas, as per the proposals.
