Following Glastonbury's update to the line-up, the Lathums, who will be playing a 45-minute set on the Other Stage on the Saturday afternoon, took to social media to share the good news. On Twitter, the band wrote: We’re buzzing to be playing @glastonbury for the first time this year. who will we see there?"
The band made up for Alex Moore, Scott Concepcion, Ryan Durrans and Matty Murphy, formed in 2018 when they met at The Music Project in Pemberton. Earlier this year, the band’s second album, From Nothing to a Little Bit More, landed at number one in the UK album charts, following in the footsteps of their debut set, 2021’s How Beautiful Life Can Be, which also went to number one.
In January, the band also announced a massive summer show here in Manchester as part of the Castlefield Bowl gig series. They'll return to Sounds of the City as headliners on Friday, June 30 - two years after appearing as special guests for Snow Patrol.
Off the back of the announcement, fans of the Wigan band flooded the comments with messages of support. One person wrote: "This is a journey of dreams. Glad to have been here since the start! From gigs in little pubs to now one of the biggest festivals in the world. Couldn't happen to nicer lads."
Others added: "so so so deserved, hope you enjoy every second of it!! you're doing it", and "I knew it when we asked you after the Bristol gig . Way too coy. Can’t wait too see you guys again."
Glastonbury fans are also speculating about the real identity of an unknown band set to play at a top slot on the Pyramid Stage on Friday, June 23. The ChurnUps, who have no digital footprint, are due to play in-between Texas and Royal Blood from 6.15pm until 7.30pm. While there are still a few secret acts to be announced, a Reddit thread dedicated to the topic, has suggested it might be Pulp.
The band is currently playing on a UK reunion tour and has a gap in their schedule around the time of Glastonbury, but others are suggesting that it could also be The Foo Fighters, as frontman Dave Grohl was once in a band called Churn. The Glastonbury website has listed no further information about The ChurnUps on the website and organisers are remaining tight lipped about this and the remaining "TBA" slots in the Woodsies tent - formerly the John Peel tent.
