The wife of the Wisconsin dad who faked his own death to abandon his family and flee to his mistress in Eastern Europe has filed for separation.
Emily Borgwardt, 44, filed for a legal separation on Dec. 10, just one day after her husband, Ryan, was forced to return to the U.S. Emily stated the couple's marriage is "irretrievably broken," according to documents obtained by Daily Mail.
She is also seeking sole custody of their three children.
The couple wed in 2002 and share three children under 18.
Until their court hearing in April 2025, the couple is banned from harassing one another and from removing their children from Wisconsin for more than 90 days without the other parent's or the court's consent.
In August, a month after the couple celebrated their 22nd anniversary, Ryan was reported missing after he did not return from a kayaking trip in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
After searching for more than a month, law enforcement found that he had been flagged in Canada before he took a flight to Europe.
Ryan was arrested and is expected to be charged with obstruction of justice, among other charges, according to NBC News.
