Dr Michael Mosley’s widow has posted an emotional tribute to the television doctor who died earlier this month while on holiday in Greece.
The 67-year-old went missing on the island of Symi on June 5 and was found four days later after an extensive search.
He died of “heat exhaustion” after “sitting down and losing consciousness” near a holiday resort, a report has said.
Clare Bailey Mosley, who is also a doctor, has also revealed plans to continue the work that gave him "such a sense of purpose".
She wrote on Instagram: “Thank you all for your wonderfully supportive messages. The outpouring of love from so many people has meant a huge amount to me and my family.
“I'm going to be quiet for a while. I’m sure you will understand. But I will be back here soon. I very much want to continue with the work that gave Michael and myself so much joy and such a sense of purpose.”
Dr Mosley has provided expert and thought provoking comments as well as research on many areas of health, including diet, sleep and exercise.
He popularised the 5:2 diet, which had been written about in a scientific paper, as well as in a 2012 documentary called Eat, Fast and Live Longer.
In recent years, Dr Mosley championed the Fast 800 diet. It’s stricter than 5:2, encouraging adherents to eat only 800 calories per day for a minimum of two weeks and a maximum of twelve weeks, which is said to spark fast weight loss.
Two special broadcasts about his life were aired by the BBC last week.
“Once more thank you so much for respecting my family's privacy so kindly,” his wife added.
“Michael was an amazing man. Thank you for seeing that too. We miss him so much.”
The body of Dr Mosley is expected to be released to his family and repatriated from Greece.
