Wide receivers coach knew Patriots had steal when drafting Demario Douglas

New England Patriots wide receivers coach Ross Douglas had high praise for rookie Demario Douglas, as the latter continues to make an impact on the football field.

The wide receivers coach couldn’t believe the former Liberty star was still available when the Patriots selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft, as transcribed by A to Z Sports’ Sophie Weller.

“I was kind of surprised he was still on the board.” said Ross Douglas, when asked if he was excited for the Patriots to draft Demario Douglas in the sixth round.

The wideout had a big hand in Sunday’s 29-25 win over the Buffalo Bills. He recorded six catches for 54 yards, averaging 13.5 yards per reception. It was his highest output of the season so far.

This could be a sign that New England wants him more involved. Demario Douglas has only played in 118 snaps on the season. On top of that, he fumbled the ball in the team’s loss to the Miami Dolphins in September.

Nevertheless, the potential is clearly there. His emergence on Sunday is encouraging for the wide receiver position. New England will need his help to continue building on it.
