Back-up Matildas goalkeeper Jada Whyman is set to leave the A-League Women competition, with Sydney FC signing shot stopper Brianna Edwards on a two-year deal.

Joining from Wellington Phoenix, Edwards is expected to become the Sky Blues' No.1 with out-of-contract Whyman tipped to move overseas.

Sydney coach Ante Juric said a contract to remain with the club for the 24-year-old uncapped Matilda was still on the table.

"We are still in negotiations with Jada and would like to be able to sign her, however she is expected to agree terms with an overseas club," he said in a statement released by the club on Thursday.

Matildas star Cortnee Vine and centre back Charlotte McLean left the Sky Blues in June, both signing deals with National Women's Soccer League club North Carolina Courage in the US.

Should Whyman secure a transfer, she will leave the domestic league as a three-time premiership and two-time championship player.

Sydney-born Edwards, 21, joins the reigning ALW champions after making 23 appearances across three seasons for the 'Nix.

The one-time New Zealand international was limited to four matches last season but won the 'save of the year' award after coming off the bench and stopping a penalty against Canberra United with her first touch of the game.

"It's really exciting to be joining my home-town club and helping to continue this title winning dynasty," Edwards said.

"I can't wait to get going and start my fight for a place in the starting line-up.

"I grew up playing in the local area so it's nice to be returning home to my roots."

Jasmine Black and Tahlia Franco are also among the club's contracted goalkeepers for next season, while Young Matildas forward Jynaya Dos Santos has been released.
