There was a time when filling up your car didn't require figuring out which side of the vehicle the gas cap was on. On many older cars, the fuel filler was right at the back, sometimes hidden behind the license plate or tucked behind a taillight. You could pull up to almost any pump, flip open the cover, and start filling. It was simple, convenient, and surprisingly common.
Today, that's almost disappeared. Most gasoline-powered cars have a fuel door on one of the rear quarter panels instead. So what happened to the rear fuel filler?
